Newmarket Town 1 Ware 2
Ware advance in the FA Cup thanks to Kamanan's brace; first goals in the cup for the Champions League player.
This was expected to be a tough game and so it proved especially in the first half as Ware rode out several attacks by the home side. It hadn't started that way with Ware, sporting their new change shirts of dayglo orange (or is it tangerine?), making the most of a strong wind at their backs.
It was something of a changed line-up and with Ahmed Abdulla still injured and Gareth Madden on the bench not yet fully match fit Kem Kemal opted for three at the backwith Lee White in a traditional centre half role and Daniel Emovon at left back, releasing Alaa Oujdi as a wide midfielder.
Oujdi was in action after three minutes with a cross from almost by the corner flag that had Murat Karagul stretching to get his head to it and finally nodding the ball wide. But Ware didn't have long to wait for the lead. In another three minutes Yannick Kamanan went across the Newmarket area from the right before shooting low into the corner of Alex Archer's net. He may have scored in the Champions League but it was his first goal in the FA Cup.
Ware continued to move the ball around well and have the best of territory and possession, and another high cross from the left this time had Josh Oyibo straining to head into the side netting after 17 minutes. Four minutes later Finbarr Robins played a neat one-two with Karagul but the ball ran away from him in the wind.
An early scare in the 13th minute as a cross was eventually scrambled away was a warning to Ware of what the home could do. As the half wore on there was more evidence with Ware clearing the ball away under pressure 25 minutes in before the ball was scrambled off the goal line as the half hour approached.
On that occasion there was some relief as the ball was cleared up field for Kamanan to embark on a run through the home defence that was only ended at the expense of a foul. Kamanan took the free kick and from distance brought the best out of Archer as he rose to palm away the ball from the top corner of his goal.
But Newmarket were back on the offensive and five minutes later a high cross from their right saw Junior Appiah clatter into a waiting forward. Newmarket captain Jack Watson gave Tom Coulton no chance with the spot kick to bring the scores level. Continuing pressure from the home side drew more desperate tackles from Ware and Karagul earned a yellow card two minutes from the break.
Ware got a grip after the break and started to control things again. Emovon was moved to right back to take the substituted Appiah's place and Karagul dropped to left back as Rheo Josephs came on for his first match since returning to Ware.
It was Marcus Milner however who provided some of the best moments of the second half as he worked down the right wing and put over a number of good crosses. It all came good on 56 minutes when his cross was met in front of goal and buried high in the net by Kamanan's first time flick off the ground.
Once ahead, Ware often seemed content to move the ball around to deny their opponents possession. There was one dangerous moment however in added time with Coulton saving well to keep Ware ahead but the visitors mostly looked to be in control and now await the draw for the next round which will be made in the coming week.
