Ware 3 Bishop's Stortford 7
Senior Cup hopes end in game of defensive frailty.
It's not often you score three goals but still lose and lose heavily but hopefully that's got such a performance out of the way without league points being at stake.
Stortford ripped into Ware and were 4-0 up before a quarter of the match was over. Alex Stephenson, Phil Walsh, Shomari Barnwell did most damage in the first eight minutes but it was 4-0 after 18 when Paul Rodgers scored. Gareth Price pulled one back for the Blues two minutes later (his 30th in all matches for Ware this season) but the first of two penalties conceded by Ware was put away by Barnwell after just another three minutes. The goals were coming thick and fast with Aaron Greene making it 6-1 on 33 minutes but once calculations started to be made about Ware's record defeat in the competition things quietened down.
For a while after half time it even looked as though Ware could make a game of it as first Lewis Soraf (with his first goal for the club, on 54 minutes) and then Josh Oyibo on 63 brought Ware a little closer to their opponents. But Luke Callandar then matched Soraf by scoring his first for the visitors from the spot with 15 minutes to go to complete a four-goal victory. Interestingly, Ware declined to make use of any of their substitutes.
Stortford go on to the final against Hitchin who beat Cheshunt 3-1 the previous night. We wish them well.
