Entertaining game for the neutral but the points go to Tilbury.

Entertaining game for the neutral but the points go to Tilbury.

The sense of unreality surrounding this game after it was switched from Tilbury to Ware hardly 24 hours earlier, leaving the home side to issue a programme printed by the visitors was soon swept away by an end to end tussle marked by 100% effort from both sides.

Once again Ware fielded a number of debutants (though in the case of Ryan Maxwell and Marco Tuzzeo they have been with the Blues in previous seasons) and maybe it was this that made the difference. In an otherwise even game it was the visitors who seemed to have more cohesion and from that a greater threat in front of goal.

Ware's new faces included the much travelled Jamie Guy who defied the cynical expectations that might follow a journeyman player by putting in a hardworking performance. His first half shot that needed 'keeper Clarke Bogard (one of two former Ware players in the Tilbury side) to push it round the post for a corner was Ware's best effort of the game.

Nicholas Symons was the other wholly new boy and also gave an impressive performance alongside Gareth Madden and Lee Flynn in a hard working defence that was intent on protecting Tuzzeo in goal.

The keeper came up through Ware's youth ranks and played a couple of first team games for the club before moving on. With Tom Coulton unavailable, his return to Ware saw him make a splendid one handed reaction save in the first half, tipping the ball over the bar, but also found him nervous under pressure when he dropped the resulting corner and grateful for a strong clearance from his defence. That said neither goal could be laid at his door.

The second half continued as a high tempo encounter with Ware's old guard looking more than capable of standing the pace but the deadlock was broken on 72 minutes when the ball came across from the left to Tilbury captain Adam Vyse who drove it low and wide of the diving Tuzzeo and into the net.

It looked likely to be two six minutes later when Vyse was free in Ware's area but he was forced wide and Tuzzeo stole the ball from him diving at his feet. It was, though, a stay of execution and with two minutes of normal time left more good work on the Tilbury left saw the ball pulled back to Charlie Little who scored from close range just four minutes after coming off the bench.

Ware have now gone three league games without scoring and travel to high flying Hornchurch in midweek to face a team against whom they have failed to score in their last three meetings. Things have clearly gone beyond a superstitious hope in the maxim "third time lucky" leaving a sense that something has to change.

Ware: Marco Tuzzeo, Gareth Madden, Lee Flynn, Ryan Maxwell, Nicholas Symons, Alaa Oujdi, Marcus Milner, Murat Karagul, Jamie Guy, Leon Antoine (Ahmed Abdulla 55mins), Prince Madu. Unused subs: Taj Hussain, Gus Douglas, Harry Larner, Warren Kayembe.
