Bury Town 4 Ware 2

Bury rip into Ware in last ten minutes.

One of the views from the train on the way to this game was of a buzzard ripping away at the innards of a limp bodied rabbit it had recently caught. Was this an omen for the game I wondered with all the demoralising upheaval of the preceding week leaving Ware to play the role of the rabbit?

In the event, the story was a little more complicated than that. Ware fielded a reasonably strong side given the absence of Sam Alderson (gone), Nicholas Symons (going), Gareth Madden (injured), plus Hady Traore and Murat Karagul (both unavailable) but when they went 2-0 down in the second half it looked as though Bury might have their talons tearing into them.

But within four minutes the scores were tied after a Ross Elsom double, the second being the goal of the match. A draw, if not more, now looked a real possibility until two goals in the final ten minutes gave the spoils to Bury.

The first half was a messy affair with niggling fouls, misplaced passes and such moments that both sides managed to fashion being too often ended by an offside flag. However, for a brief period around the half hour mark, the home side gained ascendancy enough to score the only goal of the half.

A free kick following a foul that earned Ahmed Abdulla a yellow card brought a great save out of Harry Voss and although this was followed by Ace'a Laurent's long range shot on target Bury were soon back on the attack.

Voss was in action again saving low at his right post as the home side started to gain momentum. Then a shot came off the woodwork and a follow up strike hit Damien Green standing on the line. The referee pointed to the spot indicating a hand ball offence and added salt to the wound by booking the centre back though what chance he had of getting out of the way was anyone's guess.

Although Voss got a hand to it Cemal Ramadan converted the spot kick before the game reverted to type leaving Bury the happier with a half time lead. There was more of the same in the second half before Bury increased their lead in the 63rd minute when Ware's defence was opened up for Ramadan to score again.

A minute later however Marcus Milner carried the ball down the right and for the third time in the half put over a tantalising cross. This time Ross Elsom was on hand to score easily from close range to register his first goal for the club.

He doubled his tally on 67 minutes when given the ball out on the left before drifting in and across the edge of the Bury penalty area. Yannick Kamanan looked like the person in the best position but the number ten decided not to pass and instead opted to shoot. It was the right choice as he curled the ball just inside Luis Tibbles' left hand post for a special goal.

Ware's tails were up and there was even hope of a third goal as the visitors started to believe in themselves. But on 81 minutes Tibbles cleared the ball from deep in his own half as Ware pressed. It looked as though the ball would go out of play on the Bury right but Ramadan did well to rescue it and his cross was met by Darren Mills who regained the lead for the home side.

A fourth goal five minutes later when Ryan Jolland scored from a narrow angle perhaps gave the score an emphasis that was hard on Ware but the visitors looked too often like a set of individuals rather than a team. The need to resolve the manager's position is essential.

Ware: Harry Voss, Junior Appiah (Necati Gench 87mins), Alaa Oujdi, Ahmed Abdulla, Andrew Tirivanhu, Damien Green, Marvin Hamilton (Louis Yuill 58mins), Ace'a Laurent, Yannick Kamanan, Ross Elsom, Marcus Milner. Unused subs: Elliott Harris, Jahvanne Wilson, Bi-le Smith Tiesse.
