Ware 1 Chalfont St Peter 3
Osobu returns to great effect for Chalfont.
Victor Osobu returned to the club that gave him two substitute appearances at the start of the season to torment them as an architect of an ultimately clear win for the visitors.
Ware meanwhile enjoyed enough of the game to have taken something from it but their forward momentum was too often held in check by the solid Chalfont centre-backs. Too much reliance was placed on Kieran Bishop but without support and short of his normal pace his threat was nullified.
What he needed was the kind of backing Osobu was giving his team mates with runs down the right consistently exposing Ware's defence. It was from the right that the visitors secured a corner after 26 minutes which was headed home with clinical precision by Adam Louth. It was the kind of goal that would have had Chalfont purring at its simplicity and ease whilst Ware will be kicking themselves for allowing the number eleven so much space.
Before this the contest had been pretty even but the goal lifted the visitors and Ware struggled to get back into the game for a while. That they did draw level was down to Ajet Shehu who rose above the Saints defence to head home a corner on 42 minutes.
The second half started as the first half had with Ware looking lively. This time they maintained the impetus and started to ask most of the questions. In particular, Nana Asamoah stung Michael Fowler-Simpson's fingers in the Chalfont goalwith a rasping shot that was deflected for a corner.
The keeper was back in action as Murat Karagul surged through only to be denied by a last ditch save at his feet. Minutes later Karagul was again outpacing the defence and finishing with a ball across the keeper with Bishop unable to get the necessary touch. This was the home side's best period in the match with Karagul consistently getting the better of the visitors Alex Paine down Ware's left side.
Chalfont weathered the storm however and it looked as though Ware would have to settle for a point but with 15 minutes to go things started to unravel for the Blues as Alaa Oujdi was cautioned for a lunging tackle. Within two minutes he had committed a shirt tug on Osobu and was departing for the dressing rooms on the back of a second yellow card.
A minute later Osobu, this time on the left, chased down what the Ware defence seemed to consider a hopeless cause to rescue the ball on the goal line. His cross was buried in the net by Aaron Lansiquot past the attentions of desperate defenders.
The game was up and late substitutions made no difference. It was left to Osobu to sign off with a late run from the left and a close range shot past Jack Smith for 3-1.
