Ware 1 Barkingside 2
Disappointing result as Ware ring the second half changes in search of a final squad.
Ware's pre-season programme of matches came to a disappointing end as they failed to consolidate their second half lead. Whilst Kem Kemal seems to have assembled a useful looking starting squad the need to find additional players for those times when injuries and suspensions kick in led to there being a complete change of players in this match, the majority after Yannick Kamanan's goal had given Ware the lead.
The outcome was a disjointed display for much of the last thirty minutes and Barkingside made the most of it to score twice in quick succession as the Ware defence failed to cope with corners on 68 and 70 minutes.
Substitute keeper Harrison Seetah had only just come on and must have wondered if it was worth it as the men in front of him allowed Barkingside too much space to pick their spot with headed goals. After this the game fell away as a contest and a spectacle, and most present were grateful when the final whistle came.
It had been different before that with Ware having plenty of the game and moving the ball around well albeit that they didn't cause the visiting keeper much trouble in the first half. Josh Oyibo shot narrowly over the bar and Kamanan had an opportunity in the 37th minute but his shot was blocked by the keeper before the forward fired the rebound high over the bar.
As with the previous week's game with St Margaretsbury Ware came out for the second half looking more determined to make possession count and were a goal up just over ten minutes in. A long ball from Alaa Oujdi was met by Kamanan who had his back to the goal. Perhaps that was why his header seemed to catch the advancing keeper off guard, a neat flick over his shoulder finding the bottom of the net.
It might have been 2-0 after 65 minutes when tenacious work by Marcus Milner took him past defenders and down to the by line from where he put the ball across the front of the visitors' goal. Kamanan was there but his header hit the post and was somehow scrambled away by a defender who might so easily have helped it over the line.
With four substitutes already on the field another seven followed in the next ten minutes leaving Ware with an entirely different team from that which started the game and giving Barkingside the chance they needed.
Lee White was absent from that starting eleven with Gareth Madden, who retired injured just before half time, being partnered in central defence by Taylor McKenzie. Alaa Oujdi made his first appearance since last season and Josh Oyibo was also back from holiday.
