Ware 1 Mildenhall Town 1

Rome still a construction site after first day of building.

The footings are in place but some new bricks will probably be needed to match the architect's design and some existing ones may need reshaping. It will take time.

As a result the starting line up didn't look too different to previous matches with just Harry Voss in goal, Sam Alderson and Sebastien Osei-Obengo making their debuts. Alderson was the pick of the bunch especially in the first half before the visitors started to put the shackles on him. Osei-Obengo, who scored in the midweek friendly at VCD Athletic, had a quiet game whilst Voss was hesitant at a crucial moment in the game.

Over all Ware huffed and puffed their way through a match in which they had the better and more chances but were ultimately reliant on an injury time goal to secure a point. Yannick Kamanan turned on the edge of the area to place a shot beyond the diving Jacob Marsden in the Mildenhall goal. It was almost exactly 730 minutes since the last goal scored by Ware, another injury time point saver at home to AFC Sudbury.

There had been other chances especially for the big Frenchman but his shots were wide, high or scrambled away. Twice Kamanan was denied when short range shots were blocked and hacked away and twice more Marsden failed to gather low shots that bounced from his grasp without a Ware player close enough to capitalise.

Ware had started the game at full pelt with Craig Edwards obviously keen that they should make an early impression. Yet despite having the better of the first half good chances were hard to come by whilst Mildenhall looked entirely capable of doing damage themselves.

They did it on the verge of half time when a ball from their left found Voss unsure whether to come or hold his line. In the end he chose the former but was too late to stop Nicholas Ingram coming in from the right and slotting it home off a post from a difficult angle. It was hard to take after Ware had led 5-1 on corners as a measure of their attacking intent but with half time so near they did at least have little time to dwell on the set back.

For a while it looked as though the second half would be all Ware as they pinned the visitors in their own half but eventually Mildenhall pulled themselves back into contention and might have added a second goal at times when Ware looked vulnerable under pressure, not least when Voss flapped at a cross in the area or when defenders gave the ball away too easily.

With 15 minutes left Ware brought on Damien Green for his competitive debut and he looked comfortable at the back in his first league game after signing many weeks earlier before then succumbing to injury. With the change Ware went to three at the back to provide more attacking options but it was a close run thing and needed their 6th added time goal of the season to secure a point.

Craig Edwards will be pleased to have salvaged the draw but there will doubtless be further changes of personnel as he seeks to build a team better able to exploit possession and territory.

Ware: Harry Voss, Junior Appiah, Alaa Oujdi, Ahmed Abdulla, Gareth Madden, Nicholas Symons, Marcus Milner (Marvin Hamilton 54mins), Murat Karagul (Andrew Trivianhu 84mins), Yannick Kamanan, Sebastien Osei-Obengo (Damien Green 76mins), Sam Alderson. Unused subs: Elliott Harris, Tom Coulton.
