Waltham Abbey 3 Ware 1

Craig Edwards gets an insight into the task ahead.

A game that seemed to be Ware's for the taking in the first half drifted out of their grasp in the last 20 minutes. Before that Ware had more than held their own and had the better of the first half. Yet after taking the lead they conceded a soft goal from a corner that should have been cleared and went in all square at the break.

It is the story of much of their season and should leave manager Craig Edwards in no doubt about what he faces to turn a group of talented players into a winning team. It was all the more frustrating to concede three goals when Damien Green and Nicholas Symons looked to be the Blues most talented centre back pairing for a long time.

When Yannick Kamamnan scored on 28 minutes it seemed as though Ware were on their way to benefit from a good start in which Sam Alderson was again a notable participant. The ball was fed through to Kamanan on the edge of the area and as Hugo Rossetti advanced from his goal the number 9 went wide and scored comfortably into what was now an empty net.

But if Ware were having the better of things Abbey were causing occasional problems for the defence. There was a flurry of activity at the foot of Harry Voss's post on 15 minutes and ten minutes later a cross cum short from his left saw Voss finger tipping the ball onto a post.

With just over five minutes of the half left another Abbey break needed Voss to come out of his goal to grab the ball at the feet of an attacker whilst a minute later the keeper had to palm a fierce shot from Aron Gordon round the post for a corner. It was from this that the home side scored and as the ball came over from Ware's left it appeared that no-one took responsibility for it leaving Rimmel Daniel an easy chance.

The second half initially settled into something of an end to end contest with Ware first to show after 50 minutes when Murat Karagul released Kamanan whose shot was wide. But Ware's best chance of the half came on the hour from Alderson's cross; pulled back to the edge of the area it found Ahmed Abdulla but his first touch saw the ball go away from him and allowed the home defence time to recover.

Moments later Kamanan had the ball in the net again this time taking the ball wide of Rossetti's right before shooting but a delayed offside flag ruled it out. That was Ware's last real chance although Andrew Trivianhu did his best to score when Rossetti was caught miles from his line. The long range shot was just wide of the mark.

Thereafter play started to concentrate in the Ware half, a change that was compounded by the sidelining of Gareth Madden due to injury. With 15 minutes to go there was a warning when Abbey had their best chance so far, Nathan Koranteng's cross from the right skimming across the front of the Ware goal without anyone from either side able to get a touch.

Hopes that Ware might still get something out of the game came to an end with two goals in the last ten minutes when first Koranteng this time had a better angle to shoot from and made no mistake before Shad Ngandu rubbed salt into Ware's wounds with a well worked individual goal in added time.

Ware: Harry Voss, Gareth Madden (Marcus Milner 73mins), Alaa Oujdi, Ahmed Abdulla, Damien Green, Nicholas Symons, Marvin Hamilton (Chid Onokwai 80mins), Andrew Trivianhu, Yannick Kamanan, Murat Karagul (Junior Appiah 56mins), Sam Alderson. Unused subs: Sebastien Osei-Obengo, Elliott Harris.
